Sabbath Day Thoughts

Touching the Hand of God, Amazing feeling in Sacrament Meeting today. . .

Today our ward had the fifth Sunday, and the talks in sacrament meeting were parents of missionaries in the field. I was so uplifted, yet at the same time drained by the sweetness of the Spirit along with the emotions felt.

Talk after talked reminded me so much of the experiences my own missionaries had on their missions, and the letters received from them, were so like what was said in our meeting today.

I am forever grateful for the missionaries who came to my door to share the message and ask me if they could come back to teach me about the Church. I recall going to Temple Square the months prior to their coming to Garden Grove, California to bring me the message of truth that changed my life and those of my children and family.

It was no insignificant event. It opened so many doors and windows of understanding. I had no idea how my life would change over the many years since that miraculous event of becoming a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I must say this, that the missionaries who served at that time, were sent by inspiration. It came at a time that I was searching for truth, and wanted to embrace it for the rest o my life. How fortunate too, that my children have all followed suit and are strong and faithful. I am so blessed with my posterity. Five of the eight have served as missionaries.

My heart aches to have the opportunity to serve a mission with a worthy companion. I know not what the Lord has in store for me nor when to be able to go and serve as a missionary.

This is at son, Hanks for dinner outside on the patio. I wore my red, white and blue colors in honor of Memorial Day. It is always great to be their with them for the opportunity to share time my grandchildren.
We read the scriptures, in Alma 42. I had my pocket size Book of Mormon and always like to read along and did. Hank reads and will sometimes stop in a phrase with the kids to fill in the blank. i.e. "and it came to ----. Pass it the missing word. It keeps their attention, and they love it. We were discussing the concept of Justice and Mercy. Hank did a great job to teach the children the difference. Great teaching moments while reading the scriptures. We ended with prayer. My heart was full of gratitude for the sweetness of the Spirit and how they as parents take the time to read scriptures with their children.

Art History I Never Knew Existed~

A friend of mine was sharing the Art Deco art and sent me a website about it. He lived and grew up in Cincinnati. He told me many buildings in Cincinnati were of that style. There is quite a lot written about it. The Art Deco was a style that was familiar to me from a different perspective. Read on.

I came across this Art Deco site. I reminds me of my brother, David. He painted this style and did a lot of freelance art work in this mode. It reminds me one of his 1938 Packard paintings which may hang in the Carl Karcher's corporate office in Anaheim, California.

He loved the vintage art. Thank you, David for sharing your talents with the world. May you rest in peace David, as your memory lives on...

Another Blast From the Past

This is a picture that was taken in December 1970. I had either forgotten it existed or made aware of its existence recently. A friend in our old BYU 87th Ward took it. He sent it to me today.

Hank and Tanise--Tanise is wearing a magenta colored top that I made for her and Tara matching tops and Hank had an orange, light orange plaid shirt. A Hank was six years old and Tanise four almost five when this was taken.

The Last Wagon

Posted: 07 May 2010 12:00 AM PDT

"Then the morning came when from out that last wagon floated the la-la of the newborn babe, and mother love made a shrine, and Father bowed in reverence before it. But the train must move on. So out into the dust and dirt the last wagon moved again, swaying and jolting, while Mother eased as best she could each pain-giving jolt so no harm might be done her, that she might be strong to feed the little one, bone of her bone, flesh of her flesh. Who will dare to say that angels did not cluster round and guard her and ease her rude bed, for she had given another choice spirit its mortal body that it might work out its God-given destiny?"

Always Remember Him

"Over the last hours I have come to understand other blessings from 'always remembering him.' I thought of a family in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I met years ago: a father, mother, and two teenage daughters who belonged to no church but read the Bible together every day. They pondered the Savior's life and his words. When we found them they had decided that Christ would have a church and that they should find it. They knew that it would have prophets and Apostles at its foundation because that is what Christ had left in his church in the meridian of time. They knew that the resurrected Lord had appeared to his Apostles."And so when we testified that God, the Father, and his Son, the Savior of the world, came to a boy prophet, Joseph Smith, that seemed right to them. When they heard us testify that Peter, James, and John appeared and restored priesthood, they knew that would have to have happened. And the Holy Spirit, which they also recognized, told them it was true. I realized sometime last night or early this morning that they recognized the truth, that this is the Church of Jesus Christ, in large part because they had always remembered him. Every day they had gathered to read about him and his words, and so they remembered him. And after they were baptized they were ready to follow the living prophet because they knew the Savior always speaks to his prophets to bless his people."

Henry B. Eyring, "Always Remember Him, Ensign, "May 1995, 25–26

When I first heard of Joseph Smith and the First Vision, I knew it was true, and that he really saw God and Jesus Christ. It is what is called "believing blood."

Tears in Heaven - Daniel Jordan (Arpa)

For some reason this song touched my heart strings. The harps always remind me of heaven. In fact the harpist that played at the luncheon on Thursday goes to play her music for those who are close to the veil and plays her Celestial harp for them. What a blessing to those who are that close to the veil to be sent and welcomed there.

One of my secret goals and dream is to learn how to play the Celtic harp I have stored away. An instructor told me once I could play and learn how to and be able to perform within a year after beginning. Ah, such a sweet thought to learn to play such a beloved and treasured instrument. I also have hopes that one of my grandchildren, would have a desire to play the harp. I would think I was in heaven if that ever happened!

Stripling Warriors' Mothers

Mother teaching her children--Lillie Ann Landreth McIntire with her husband, Henry and children, Lillian and Earl Henry circa 1914

An ancient of times mother and her child

A Victorian mother and daughter

This looks like 21 month old, Joel's hand. So cute and with those chubby fingers/hands.

"Yea they had been taught by their mothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them. And they rehearsed the words of their mothers, saying "We do not doubt our mothers knew." Alma 56:47-48

Many a son or daughter who is armed with the full armor of God, has/had a Stripling Warrior Mother. They go out into the world of life knowing with absolute as surety that their mother never wavered in her testimony of the living Christ.
Likely she took them in her arms from birth, sang to them songs of Jesus and wrapped them in the love of the Savior and clothed them with the truth in her example and actions. Her speech was beyond reproach, remembering who she was as a daughter of God.

She must have instilled in them to have a desire to be missionaries by the fervor in which she bore her testimony of the Book of Mormon often as she taught them the gospel in their home each week.

They knew of their mother’s faith in God and in Jesus Christ by the prayers she offered in their behalf each morning and night as they gathered for family prayer. Her faith could move mountains and always called on the power of the priesthood to bless and heal her children, she encouraged them to get father’s blessings throughout the year when a new year in school was upon them.

Her children never doubted how much the temple meant to her as she would go faithfully to bring the blessings of the temple to her ancestors and participated with her to perform the proxy baptisms for her parents, grandparents and be a part of their bonds for eternity in the temple together as a family.
The influence of mothers in the home is priceless and builds armies of Helaman and Captain Moroni’s. God bless the women of the Lord who nurture, teach and train their little ones from the cradle to adulthood. One never outgrows their need for “Mother’s love.”

Sisters, may God Bless us all to live up to what the Lord knows we are capable of and can do. We also know, we can stand next to the priesthood and be equals in every way.

Grandson, a Missionary . . . in the Field, Ready to Harvest

About two weeks ago I went with Aaron & Candice with their children to tour Temple Square. This is a picture of me and the Spring flowers. It was there while Standing there at the corner I realized that it was in the North Visitors Center that I first heard about Joseph Smith and his First Vision. It was the beginning of my testimony of him as a Prophet even before I was baptized a member of the Church. I always knew it was true from the beginning.

We went inside to the lower level and saw the display of the prophets of old, from the Old Testament. There near the display there were an array of Books of Mormon in the languages that have been translated. I picked up the one from Madagascar for my grandson to see it was in his mission language. It was kind of exciting to hold that book and what it can do for those in Madagascar for him to preach and teach the gospel to the Saints to be.

A Testimony of a Second Witness of Jesus Christ

Priority of the Book of Mormon

Posted: 30 Apr 2010 12:00 AM PDT

"A . . . powerful testimony to the importance of the Book of Mormon is to note where the Lord placed its comings forth in the timetable of the unfolding Restoration. The only thing that preceded it was the First Vision. In that marvelous manifestation, the Prophet Joseph Smith learned the true nature of God and that God had a work for him to do. The coming forth of the Book of Mormon was the next thing to follow."Think of that in terms of what it implies.

The coming forth of the Book of Mormon preceded the restoration of the priesthood. It was published just a few days before the Church was organized. The Saints were given the Book of Mormon to read before they were given the revelations outlining such great doctrines as the three degrees of glory, celestial marriage, or work for the dead. It came before priesthood quorums and Church organization. Doesn't this tell us something about how the Lord views this sacred work?"
